Office Party Makeover

The holiday season is upon us, and for many women that means lots of parties. But while most affairs offer a place to shine and be glamorous, flirt and be fancy, the office party is not one of them. "The first thing to keep in mind when you go to an office party is that you really are at work," says New York City makeup artist Deborah Grayson. "You may be interacting with your bosses and your bosses' bosses. Don't think of it as partying, think of it as gracious networking."

Here, makeup and style do's and don'ts from Deborah to keep you on track at your office party:

Do add gleam. Sparkly chunks of gold and silver will look over-the-top, but there are numerous products that add a sheer gleam and a little dazzle to eyelids without being too sparkly. Among my favorites are Studio Stick from Ramy, Go-Wink liquid eye shadow by Estee Lauder and Luminous Pearl eye pencil by Shu Uemura. These will leave a subtle colored gleam across the lid. Use an extra-light touch if you're applying them over eye shadow.

Don't add glitter. Glitter and sparkle on the eyes (or anywhere on your body) is more about "party" than "office." Save it for your New Year's Eve soiree.

Do wear a brighter lipstick. Even a subtle change in your lipstick shade can dress up your look significantly. Treat yourself to a slightly brighter shade, or enliven the shade you normally use by adding a layer of another more vivid tone. If you normally wear plum, for example, try adding a layer of crimson on for a slight gleam.

Don't wear lip gloss. Matte lipsticks will last longer and are better suited to eating and drinking on your feet. Gloss will end up on your glass. Also, shiny lips may seem a little too sexy in some corporate headquarters.

Do get a manicure. Your hands say so much about you. At an office party when you'll be shaking hands, holding drinks and eating, it's best to keep your polish subtle. Essie's pale pink shade Ballet Slippers or Deborah Lippmann's Treat Me Right Treatment Set will look pretty and professional on everyone.

Don't paint your nails fire engine red. I know, I know, it's a holiday! I love red polish too, but your goal at an office party is not to be the life of the party, it's to remain the responsible professional you are. At a work event, with the CEO of your company mingling, neutral nails are the way to go.

Do look like yourself. The ideal office party look should match your "best" day at work. Look like the pulled together, the unfussy, basically, the all-encompassing professional that you are.

Don't get too fancy. Don't radically change your style, especially your hair. If you look too formal, you'll most likely feel out of place. Remember, whether you're in a restaurant, a hotel lounge or even dancing, if you're at an office party you're in a professional place.

Heop! How Do I Soften the Rough Skin on My Elbows?

Thick, dark skin on elbows is one of those annoying body problems you've likely inherited from someone. To soften rough skin on elbows, try exfoliation in the shower with a scrub and bath mitt. Follow with a heavy moisturizer. At-home microdermabrasion creams can also exfoliate a few layers of dead skin. But for the hardcore alligator-skinned cases, you're best off visiting a dermatologist for a round of acid peels on the elbow (renowned dermatologist Dr. Fredric Brandt uses trichloric acid on his patients). Laser peels can also be effective, but must be administered by an MD.

Quick Fix for Dry Skin? Skip Your Cleanser

f you suffer from dry skin, consider this remedy: Skip the cleanser (which can be drying) and opt for a bit of Omega-3 oil or Pure Almond Oil (you can find these in any health food store or shop online below). Put a few drop in your palm, mix with warm water (never wash your face in hot water) and then massage into your face & neck. Let sit for a couple minutes then gently wipe face clean with a damp washcloth. (Tip: Never use a washcloth more than two days in a row, they are a breeding ground for bacteria). Follow up with a moisturizer.

Here, you'll find Omega-3 oils:

What Causes White Bumps on the Backs of My Arms?

Are you plagued by this in winter? So were we. So we checked out what causes the little white bumps & how to get rid of them.

A. Those little white bumps are actually very common & the result of clogged pores in the hair follicles. You'll notice them mainly in winter because of the low humidity in the air. Common spots include arms, buttocks & the backs of legs. So how to get rid of these suckers (actual name is is keratosis pilaris, better know as 'chicken skin')? Exfoliate. Try a loofah or washcloth in the shower or do like our friend Janine and opt for a professional scrub (we went to a Korean spa here in NY and Janine's keratosis totally disappeared).

How To Make Yourself a Homemade Salt Scrub

Winter is a harsh time for skin. Excessively cold air coupled with lack of humidity in indoor spaces caused by heating can leave skin dehydrated, scaly & patchy. Head to a posh spa & you can treat yourself (for a mere $100-$300) to an all-over body salt scrub. Or why not do-it-yourself for next to nothing? All you need is liquid body soap, a coarse salt & a nice, warm bath.

Difficulty: Easy

Time Required: 10 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Run a warm bath & soak for a good 10 minutes (you can also skip the bath & do this in the shower)
  2. Put on loofah mitts (the softer, the better)
  3. sprinkle a palmful of sea salt on a mitt
  4. mix in liquid body soap
  5. rub mitts together so the salt & soap are mixed together
  6. rub the mixture all over your body, rubbing in a circular motion. Rub harder on tougher areas such as the bottom of your feet, elbows & knees. Avoid your face.
  7. Rinse thoroughly
  8. Follow with a thick moisturizer (we like Shea butter). Avoid alpha hydroxy products.

Loofahs-- Are They Good for You?

To Loofah or Not to Loofah

Ok, so that's the question. And the answer from the experts is mixed. Once a loofah is used it becomes loaded with bacteria buildup, says New York City-based makeup artist, Keiko Takagi in Elle Magazine. Others claim as long as you regularly clean your shower exfoliators in the washing machine or the dishwasher once a week you should be good to go. Loofahs don't hold up well in a washing machine, but you could keep them clean via the dishwasher.

Opt instead for a mesh shower sponge, which can last a long time as long as you wash it once a week. (I suggest throwing it in the washing machine when you wash your sheets once a week). The same goes for my preferred shower exfoliator: The gloves. Throw them in the washer or dishwasher once a week and you don't have to worry about bacteria.

Not a fan of those mesh sponges (I'm not) opt instead for one of those huge brushes meant for use OUTSIDE of the shower. Use it to give your body a great 'dry scrub.' This way you don't compete with the shower stream & your brush stays bacteria-free.

Another secret of the trade, courtesy of Takagi: Take shorter showers. "If you do like to linger, coat your body in oil before you get in to avoid stripping your natural moisture.

How to Get Rid of Deodorant Stains

You did it again. Applied the deodorant before you pulled on your tight t-shirt, the one that hugs your curves just right and now has two rather hideous deodorant schmears running along the front of it. So what to do?

A. Here's a tried-but-true fix-it tip I got from an actress (courtesy of a fashion magazine): Reach into your sock drawer, grab a sock -- preferably a cotton sock -- and rub out the schmear.

I tried this recently in a Theory store while trying on the cutest, swingingest little black dress they had. I got deodorant on it and thank goodness I had a sock with me (rarely do I have socks with me) and the deodorant came right off. I was very pleased as I did not want to deliver said dress back to nice salesperson with a Degree schmear.

Don't have a sock? Rub any fabric along the schmear. It doesn't work as well as a cotton sock, but should do the trick. Whatever you do, do not try to wipe off schmear with paper towels dunked in water. I tried this twice and got bits of paper towel all over my shirt. Water never works with deodorant stains, while the stain appears to have disappeared at first, once the water dries the deodorant shows up again.

3 Soaps to Skip

Funny thing happens when you stand in the soap aisle. You get overwhelmed. And then you go to the boutiques & the department stores & they are filled with $20 bars of soap & $30 bottles of bath gel. So really then, do women who bath with $80 bath bars have better skin than someone who rubs on the, oh, say Ivory? (We do hate that smell, by the way). No really. But then again if they can afford $80 bath bars, they probably pay for $200 monthly facials & body scrubs as well. Sigh.

Ok, ok, we'll get down to the real nitty gritty. The truth is the best body cleansers are pure & simple. Plain works just as well as fancy. Here's the rundown:

  1. Deodorant soap These soaps actually contain bacteria-killing chemicals that can dry out your skin. Regular soap will get rid of odors just as well. We like French-milled soap. But yes, Ivory or Dove work fine.
  2. Anti-bacterial soap The only people who really need this special soap are doctors, elementary school teachers and those with bad back acne. Normal soap (again, Ivory, Dove or any other typical bath bar found just about anywhere) will keep you just as clean and bacteria-free.
  3. Shower & bath gels Most bath & shower gels contain sodium laurel sulfate, a chemical that can be drying to your skin. Who knew? Yep. Might as well keep them for your guests only or for special occasions. They are fun to use after all. One great body wash bet that's non-irritating is Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash.

    So what soaps should you

The Best Moisturizers on the Market

From Cheap to Steep & For Every Skin Type

When choosing a moisturizer, the perfect one will fit three requirements: It smells best, feels best and goes on without feeling greasy on the skin. A quality moisturizer should never irritate or burn skin.

Here I run down the best moisturizers on the market today from cheap to steep and for every skin type: Dry, oily, combination and more. This list includes the yearly picks by the staff of 'InStyle' magazine plus the tried and true picks selected by other beauty experts. This is no random list -- every moisturizer here has passed with high marks the exacting standards of the best makeup artists, beauty editors and dermatologists in the business.

Key: $=up to $10; $$=up to $20; $$$=up to $30; $$$$=up to $40 & over.

Best moisturizers for dry skin, from cheap to steep (Ingredients to look for: Glycerin, dimethicone and hyaluronic acid)

  • Eucerin Extra Protective moisture lotion SPF 30
With this product, you get not only a great moisturizer but you get SPF protection too. Don't use this moisturizer before bedtime, however, you'll want to stick with one that doesn't include sun protection because you don't want added ingredients your skin doesn't need during the night. $
  • Dove Sensitive Essentials Day lotion This is a great basic moisturizer. $
  • Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer I've used this moisturizer for years. It's thick as a shake, but absorbs quickly & doesn't leave my face feeling sticky. $$
  • Lancome Absolue Night treatment This heavy-duty moisturizer contains glycerin -- a great humectant. The wild yam extract, sea algae & soy restore moisture. $$$

Best moisturizers for sensitive skin, from cheap to steep (Avoid anything scented or colored, the fewer ingredients, the better).

  • Dove Sensitive Essentials Day lotion This light lotion has no scents or dyes and absorbs quickly. $
  • Eucerin Extra Protective moisture lotion SPF 30 With this product, you get not only a great moisturizer but you get SPF protection too. Don't use this moisturizer before bedtime, however, you'll want to stick with one that doesn't include sun protection because you don't want added ingredients your skin doesn't need during the night. $

How to Protect Skin in The Winter

10 Tips for Hands, Feet, Body, Face & Lips

Skincare is totally seasonal, just like your wardrobe. In summer, you're busy with sun protection (aren't you?) and self-tanners, while in winter you may seem addicted to moisturizers because your skin gets so dried out and flaky (this is called "winter itch"). So why the dry skin in winter? Low temperatures, low humidity and strong, harsh winds deplete skin of its natural lipid layer which keeps the skin from drying out.

To keep your skin feeling dewy and moist even in the harsh winter weather, follow these tips:

Keep Water Lukewarm, Not Hot

Hot water robs skin of moisture, so it's best to shower in lukewarm water. If you can't bear this rule -- I can't -- try to keep your warm showers short and try showering only once per day. This also means skipping the hot tubs in winter (another rule I simply cannot bear). The hot, hot temperature, combined with drying chemicals, is torture on skin.

The same rule applies to hand-washing: Wash hands in lukewarm, never hot, water (this is a rule I firmly abide by). If your skin turns red, the water is simply too hot.

Moisturize After Showers or Handwashing

Moisturizer is the key to soft, supple skin in winter. Apply product when skin is slightly damp. For best effect, pat skin dry instead of rubbing with your towel before application.

Antibacterial soap in public places can be harsh on hands, so I like to keep hand salve in my purse (my hands-down favorite: Kiehls). To keep cuticles soft, I massage in olive oil.

Extra tip: I love keeping moisturizer and facial water on my desk at work. I spritz Evian Mineral Spray (about $11 in drugstores), and then dab on moisturizer. The water locks in moisture and leaves my skin refreshed even in harsh office heat.

Exfoliate on a Weekly or Semi-weekly Basis

Moisturizer is much more effective on properly exfoliated skin. Use a scrub in the shower and exfoliate facial skin with a mild scrub made for the face.

It's best to scrub skin when it's dry, according to Marcia Kilgore, the founder of Bliss Spa in New York, in InStyle Magazine's September, 2005, issue. Apply scrub to dry skin before you turn on the water (mix with lotion if it's not moist enough). Massage the scrub in for a good five minutes for best results.

Extra tip: Dry brush skin before a shower with a body brush to remove flaky skin (it's more effective than brushing in the shower).

Invest in a Humidifier

Furnaces rob air of moisture, leaving very little humidity in the air. I once read that your skin needs more than 30 percent humidity to stay properly moisturized. A room heated by a furnace can have as little as 10 percent moisture. In the winter, consider sleeping with a humidifier in your bedroom. Keep doors closed so the moist air doesn't escape the room.

Skip the Drying Soaps

Stick with a creamy moisturizing cleanser that contains glycerin or petrolatum, such as Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash, or Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash (my current drugstore pick).

Extra tip: Simply can't skip the bath? Skip the bubbles, which can contain harsh foaming ingredients and opt for bath oils or oatmeal scrubs, which are great for soothing itchy skin.

Baby Your Hands & Feet

Hands and feet can suffer terribly in winter. Put on moisturizer and gloves BEFORE you head outdoors, and consider lathering up your feet in thick moisturizer and sleeping in cotton socks at night.

Extra tip: Cover feet in a thick moisturizer, wrap feet in Saran Wrap, then pull on a pair of socks for a couple hours. Try to sit or lie down while the moisturizer soaks in or risk sliding into a full split and pulling your groin muscles. The same treatment can be done on hands, except try plastic bags and keep hands in a pair of socks. A half-hour should do you.

Stay Hydrated But Don't Go Overboard

Many people believe if they drink more water, they'll hydrate skin. But I've read time and time again that this is a myth and you simply cannot moisturize skin from the inside out.

That said, a small study recently published by the University of Hamburg (and reported in Allure magazine), suggests people who drink relatively little water could see a significant benefit in skin hydration if they started drinking nine eight-ounce glasses of water per day. What does this mean? Probably that dehydration does affect skin, but a normally hydrated person isn't going to see major benefits by drinking even more water. My advice: don't expect bottled water to save you from winter itch.

Don't Forget Your Lips

Licking your lips will not moisturize them and instead will help dry them out. Lips retain less moisture than other parts of the body, so they tend to dry out more quickly. A simple lip balm helps, as does my all-time favorite lip trick learned in high school from "Seventeen" magazine: moisturize your lips with Vaseline. Take a toothbrush and "brush" your lips in a circular motion. This will remove dead flakes and leave your lips soft and supple.
Try: Kinerase Lip Treatment (about $38).

Your Face Needs Extra Care in Winter

Cold, winter wind can wreak havoc on skin. To keep your face supple in winter, apply moisturizer to your face before going out into the cold and cover your face with a scarf in harsh wind.

If you have super, duper sensitive skin, consider avoiding rinsing your face with tap water, which can contain harsh minerals that are especially drying to the skin (Dr. Dennis Gross once told me New York water contains a lot of harsh minerals, while Seattle water, for example, does not. Go figure).

Instead, do like the French and cleanse skin in winter with a cleaner that does not require rinsing, like Pond's Cold Cream. You can also rinse with special water that contains selenium and chamomile, suggests beauty expert Valerie Monroe in the September, 2006 issue of O, the Oprah Magazine.

Consider Fish Oil Pills

New studies show omega-3 fish oil pills may soothe super dry skin. Patients who took fish oils pills in a study reported in Allure magazine, saw significant results within a few weeks. "You can see, within six weeks, the skin, hair and nails improve markedly," according to skin expert Dr. Andrew Weil in Allure. Ever since I started taking fish oil pills in March, 2007, I have received numerous compliments on how amazing my skin looks. So there you have it.

How To Fix A Streaky Tan From Self-Tanner

Uh-oh, your self-tanning effort has resulted in orange streaks, leaving you looking like a Halloween candy corn. How to fix?

Cut a lemon in half, squeezing juice onto a cotton ball. Wipe the streaky orange areas. Candy corn effect should be diluted within minutes.

Don't have a lemon on hand? Try a baking soda paste made with a few drops of water. Massage the paste into the streaky areas.

To avoid a streaky self-tan, apply moisturizer on your extra dry parts, especially around knees, elbows and fingers, and make sure to blend, blend, blend during application.

Top 8 Bath Products

Every bath needs a few key products: Scrubs, body washes, salts & a nice bar soap. Here are 8 favorites we're currently addicted to. Try them out. We promise you'll become addicted too.

1. Sugar Scrub: Vitabath Spring Green Sugar Scrub

We are currently addicted to this sugar scrub. Apply some to a scrub mitt & massage all over. You're left with silky, creamy skin & no more dead skin cells. Our #1 pick for any bath.

2. Dead Sea Bath Salts: Ahava

Of the many bath salts out there, we feel the best ones contain 100% salt from Israel's Dead Sea. People with skin conditions flock to the Dead Sea for it's almost 'miracle' abilities to calm skin problems. Ahava's bath salts are the best ones on the market. Pour a few tablespoons into your bath & watch your stress melt away.

3. Moisturizer for After the Bath: Kiehl's Creme de Corps Body Moisturizer

Baths can be drying. You need a thick moisturizer post-bath & you won't find a better one that Kiehl's. It's thick, butter-colored & doesn't contain any fragrances. In fact, it doesn't smell good -- or bad -- it's moisturizer in it's most natural state. But it works, deeply moisturizing your entire body. Plus it comes in a huge bottle so you can pump & pump away. A must for any bath in the wintertime.

Extra tip: Smooth on the moisturizer when skin is still damp, it keep the moisture in.

4. Bubble Bath: Fresh Body Market Milk

Milk baths are incredibly hydrating. What we like about this fresh organic coconut milk bath with glycerin is its creaminess. It leaves skin silky smooth. Plus, this bath produces tons of dense, long lasting bubbles.

Homemade Option: Don't want to splurge? Make your own milk bath by pouring 3 cups pure buttermilk & 3 tablespoons of honey in the tub. Stir it up & enjoy.

5. Special Shampoo: Komenuka Bijin Hair Shampoo

OK, so you have your everyday shampoo. You have your dandruff shampoo for those scaly days. And you need a fancy shampoo for those days when you need a pick-me-up, you have a big date or your interviewing for your dream job. This Japanese shampoo, found only in boutiques, is the perfect special occasion shampoo. You could make it your regular shampoo, but why spend the money? Plus, you'll enjoy it more if you save it for a special occasion.

6. Body Wash: Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash

In winter, skin gets chapped (unless you live in the South) & in summer it's susceptible to sunburn. This body wash won't irritate further. Instead, the oatmeal in it will calm & soften surburned or chapped skin.

7. French Milk Soaps: Fresh Milk Soap

We love Fresh soaps. But here's the deal, they're not cheap. However, they are so good our friend Janine collected a dozen of them in our neighborhood Fresh store to take with her to Mississippi to give her mom. Turns out her mom fell in love with Fresh but couldn't get the soaps anywhere near her. Milk soaps are some of the most calming you can get & Fresh is our favorite. Don't want to spend the money? Try Alabu's goat milk soap below. The price is unbelievable.

Best goat milk soap: Alabu

8. Bath Bombs: LUSH

Perhaps the most fun bath product ever (even more fun that bubble baths, we think), bath bombs fizz like Alka Seltzer in the water and when they're done, you're left to soak in nourishing bliss. There are no better bath bombs than LUSH. They have a variety of fragrances & ingredients. Check them out & pick your favorite.

The Right Way to Apply a Body Scrub

One of my favorite indulgences is a Korean body scrub. You literally get all the dead skin scrubbed off you in what seems like layers until you're left with baby smooth skin. To get the same results in your own bath, follow these tips:

The Right Scrub is Key

I prefer sugar scrubs to the drying salt scrubs. Be careful with the type of scrub you get, some cheap versions have large granules that can tear at the skin. My favorite basic scrub is Vitabath Sugar Scrub Spring Green.. For pure luxury and indulgence, I reach for Red Flower's Ohana Gingergrass Bamboo Scrub..

Scrub Towards Your Heart

This beauty secret of spas makes sense to me. Start at your feet and massage the scrub in a circular motion up the legs and the torso. Continue at your fingertips and massage up the arm.

Don't Scrub Every Day

Avoid overexfoliating by scrubbing a couple times a week. If you have sensitive skin, consider a lighter touch.

Don't Scrub After You Shave

You risk stinging your skin. I do, however, suggest a good scrub before you shave which will remove dead skin cells so they don't clog up your razor.

source from http://beauty.about.com

Red Flower: Ohana Gingergrass Bamboo Scrub

If you can afford a luxury body scrub, this is the one to get.

A completely unique body scrub, it contains teeny granules that exfoliate skin without tearing (a tendency of cheaper salt scrubs). This is a spa-quality scrub at a spa prices ($62 for a large tub). The good news is you don't need a lot of it to exfoliate the entire body.

Pros

  • Granules don't tear at skin
  • Leaves skin silky smooth, soft and supple
  • Lemongrass scent doesn't cling to skin in an overpowering way
  • A little goes far, no handfuls of product needed here

Cons

  • Leaves the bathtub a mess (described by one critic as fine coffee grounds)
  • Doesn't come with a spatula, making scooping a bit tricky
  • Pricey compared to most scrubs, this is a luxe product

Description

  • Luxury body scrub worth the price
  • Dark brown granules leave skin soft and subtle
  • A little goes a long way

Guide Review - Red Flower: Ohana Gingergrass Bamboo Scrub

One of my favorite indulgences is a Korean body scrub You literally get all the dead skin scrubbed off you in what seems like layers until you're left with baby smooth skin. In an effort to mimic that effect, I've tried out several body scrubs for the bath and Red Flower's Ohana Gingergrass Bamboo scrub is my current favorite.

I got turned onto Ohana Gingergrass Bamboo scrub on one of my shopping sprees at NYC's C.O. Bigelow apothecary. The saleswoman assured me this was one of the very best new items on their shelves and a potential 'must-have' for readers. After using it for more than two weeks, I've found a scrub for life worth every penny. The chocolate-colored bamboo granules are subtle, don't tear at the skin (key for any scrub, whether for body or face) and the scent isn't overpowering. I was left with smooth, silky, soft skin.

What others are saying:

On Makeupalley.com, four readers have tried it. Three of the four loved it for it's foaming qualities, scent and it's softening effects on the skin. One woman found it disappointing. She said it didn't foam as she expected and left her tub a mess.

Product contains: Bamboo powder, soft water, bamboo sap, walnut shell powder, sea algae extract, ginger oil, grand fir oil, lime oil, pink grapefruit oil, bergamot oil, blue tansy oil, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, coconut derived cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, sodium lauroamphoacetate, sodium methyl cocoyl laurate, peg-150 pentaerythityl tetrastearate and decyl glucoside.

How Can I Tell if I Have Bad Breath?

Skip the old method of blowing into your hands and smelling your breath. Instead, lick the back of your hand, let the saliva dry, then take a whiff. What you smell is your true breath.

source from http://beauty.about.com

What Causes Bad Breath?

Most of your bad breath problems can be traced bad to poor oral hygiene. Bacteria that builds up on the back of your tongue or in between your teeth is the main culprit. These bad boys like to breed on the tongue and in crevices caused by gum disease, cavities and poorly fitting bridges or crowns. According to my dentist, bad breath can also be caused by antihistamines, nasal sprays and some anti-depressants. They can dry up your saliva, which leads to bad breath. This is why your friend's breath will smell more when she's sick.

So how to fix? Make sure to floss daily, brush your teeth thoroughly & scrape your tongue with a tongue scrapper (bought at drugstores). If this doesn't work? See your doctor.

Click here to find out how to tell if your breath is bad (don't try smelling your breath any other way, doesn't work).

source from http://beauty.about.com

Is There A Cure for Bad Breath?

The key here is to get rid of the culprits. You’ll need to keep bacteria at bay by daily flossing and brushing. You also want to drink plenty of water. It’s especially important to brush and floss at night, when production of saliva slows down causing ‘dry mouth.’ Buy a tongue-scraper and use it in combination with brushing your tongue. Sugarless gum also does an excellent job of cleaning out the crevices where bacteria like to breed.

If you're a lip gloss lover you know that sometimes a single shade doesn't cut it. In fact, part of the fun is pairing colors to suit your mood or makeup. Inspired by a trip to India, makeup artist Sue Devitt has launched a small compact that contains four perfect lip glosses in magenta, tangerine, gold and copper. It's called Mini Stars Kaleidoscope. Wear each color alone or layer a combination. Available at Sephora stores or at Beauty.com

Sexy Hair Fantasy

We don't know about you, but we've always believed that if we had long, full and thick hair we would be... more complete. Hair U Wear's clip-in extensions now make it all possible. These easily attachable extensions make thin hair look full and thick while adding length. They actually look real. The only danger? An unhealthy attachment to the attachments. Available at select Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's and Lord & Taylor stores or online at HairUWear.com

Calling All Redheads

Now is the time to be your radiant selves. John Frieda has introduced shampoos, conditioners and daily color protectors formulated to preserve and protect color as well as leave hair soft, luxurious and healthy. In fact, he promises that if you use this collection, your hair will retain its red tones three times as long. It comes in two shades of red: "brighter, vivid" for golden reds and "deeper, richer" for eggplant reds.

Spring Song: In Stores Now

March is a busy month. If we lived in the country (oh, if only we lived in the country), we would no doubt be very busy in our gardens doing things like digging earth, planting seeds, trimming bushes and painting birdhouses. But since we live in a city, where the first signs of spring take place in the windows of department stores, we shop. What's tantalizing us in March? Brushes, blushes and lotions, and lots more. Check it out.

Makeup that treats skin

Sisley's botanical makeup line comes in a range of luminous pinks. There is something for everyone here, whether you want an iridescent touch on your cheekbones or a vivid, long-lasting lipstick. The Phyto-Blush Eclat Pinky Rose Duo gives you two shades, one light and one bright, in four pretty colors: pink, peach, litchi and mango. This blush contains rose hips and ginkgo biloba to protect your skin, and mallow and linden to soften skin. Go to Sisley-Cosmetics.com.

Tender is the face

Even if we'd never heard of Estee Lauder, we would buy this product for its name alone: Tender Blush. Estee Lauder has figured out how to create a featherlight powder that binds to the skin in the softest, prettiest way. The micropigment technology provides edgeless blush color, making it appear as if it's coming from the skin. Go to Estee Lauder.com.

Advanced wrinkle cream

Estee Lauder's latest skin care innovation isn't called Perfectionist for nothing. It contains what the company calls a poly-collagen peptides correcting serum that speeds the delivery of good stuff into your skin. The company claims that Perfectionist will not only reduce the appearance of deeper lines, wrinkles and age spots, but will also have long-lasting results. Available at major department stores or Estee Lauder.com.

The body shaper

Biotherm has just introduced an anti-water-retention formula that claims to make the contour of your body appear refined and reshaped. The spray-on formula contains active ions meant to smooth and "perfect" the skin's surface. It also contains ginseng and dextran sulfate to reduce water retention and a mineral complex to smooth and soften the skin. Draine-Choc Dual-Phase Body Shaping Treatment is available at Biotherm-usa.com.

Dry skin relief

Sometimes between-season skin can get so dry it peels! The skin care line AmorePacific has introduced three new facial products for seriously dry skin. We love the amazing Moisture Bound Vitalizing Creme, which provides continuous hydration while it's on your skin. Available at the AmorePacific Beauty Gallery and Spa in New York and Bergdorf Goodman.

Whipped body oil

Doesn't that sound delicious? If your idea of a perfect moisturizer is a supercreamy lotion that's also superlight ‑- and not greasy ‑- you'll love Avon's Skin-So-Soft Whipped Body Oils. The skin nourishers, which come in three powdery scents, now include vitamin E, shea butter and jojoba oil. Available at Avon.com.

For your inner makeup artist

You know you've got a makeup artist in there somewhere. Clinique's seven new brushes are so sleek they would make anyone feel like a pro. Each handmade brush features quality natural and synthetic bristles for perfect blending and a cool, clear Lucite handle. What we love most: Clinique has a patent-pending antimicrobial treatment on the brushes that will protect them from mold. Available at Clinique.com.

Just a great lip nourisher

The famous Lip Rescue by Elemis has been reformulated and repackaged. This petroleum-free lip saver in a tube contains lots of vitamins, as well as calendula for healing and peppermint oil to cool and sooth skin. Lip Rescue is based on a formula of natural collagen, white beeswax, olive oil wax and coca butter. Available at Elemis.com.

Give yourself a preseason glow

With Lancome's Flash Bronzer Airbrush, self-tanning is actually fun. This multiangle spray-on product will give you an even, allover glow that is absolutely streak free. Specially formulated to be quick drying. Available at Lancome counters in department stores or at Lancome.com.

Lighten up

Sundari just launched a line of gorgeous Ayurveda-inspired candles in jasmine, floral and mango-basil scents. A perfect addition to any bath or spa treatment. Go to Sundari.com.

Treats for gardeners' hands

So maybe the city dwellers among us can't be gardeners, but we can treat our hands to Crabtree and Evelyn's new Gardeners Creamy Hand Wash, "the wash that thinks like a cream." This gentle cleanser actually makes your hands appear softer each time you wash them. Apply to dry hands, then rinse with warm water and pat dry. Great for nails and cuticles too. Available at Crabtree-Evelyn.com or call 1800-CRABTREE.

The cellulite terminator

When you have a tough job like cellulite ‑- which strikes 90 percent of us ‑- you need a tough system to destroy it. L'Oréal has introduced two new products that, used together, give you a 24-7 anticellulite treatment. L'Oréal Sublime Slim Day Anti-Cellulite + Skin Sculpting Body Firming Gel and Sublime Slim Night Anti-Cellulite + Smoothing Body Toning Gel both contain a firming complex the company calls Par-Elastyl, which includes caffeine. Available in drug and cosmetics stores.

Body polisher

No one makes spa products like the French. We love Yves Rocher's new Smoothing Body Polish from his Spa Energie Vegetale line. It'll leave your skin fresh, as well as smooth. Go to YvesRocherUSA.com

Spring Cleaning: In Stores Now

Here in New York City, the month of March came in like a lion and left like a lion. Rain and snow pelted us at both ends of that long month. So we're delighted that April has arrived. Cherry blossoms, warmer temperatures, open windows and daylight that stretches long into evening are among our favorite things. April is also our favorite time to clean, get organized, freshen up our routines and begin new projects. And what do we get for all our efforts? We must treat ourselves to something yummy. Lemon-scented body butter, anyone? Find out more about this and all kinds of other new goodies, in stores this month.

Refreshing body butters.
Caswell-Massey brings us the Verbena Shea Body Butter, which not only has the delicate, lemony scent of a verbena plant, but is comprised of 23 percent shea butter. You cannot go wrong with this uplifting, creamy skin soother. But you might want to eat it ‑- shea butter has the airy, creamy texture of chocolate mousse. And for your knees, heels, elbows and cuticles, we love Caswell-Massey's Shea Butter Balm. Packaged in easy-to-use stick form, this balm instantly relieves dry skin. Available in Caswell-Massey stores nationally, or at CaswellMassey.com

Buff nails.
A chic new look this summer is the "naked manicure," manicured hands with matte, buffed nails. Neutrogena offers a shortcut with Instant Nail Enhancer. Just one thin coat daily provides a satiny sheen without buffing. Unlike nail polish, this product won't dry out nails and contains vitamin E and pro-vitamin B5 to strengthen nails. Available in food and drug stores or at Neutrogena.com.

Skin care from nature.
Apivita Aromatherapy Express offers a complete range of skin products made with fruits, vegetables and essential oils. Apivita Express Facial Day Cream with Tomato and Facial Night Cream with Carrot come in two stackable jars. Check out these lightly scented, spa-like treatments by going to PureBeauty.com and selecting "Bath and Body Works."

Eye miracle.
Erno Laszlo's Antioxidant Complex for Eyes really does appear to instantly lift the skin around the eyes. Packed with antioxidants, this high-tech gel also promises to diminish fine lines and prevent premature aging. Available at Laszlo counters in fine specialty stores or at ErnoLaszlo.com.

Sweet Scrub.
Tahitian vanilla has been used to enhance moods for hundreds of years. Now Tahitian Noni Moea has combined this rich fragrance with sugarcane in the amazing Sugar Scrub Vanilla and Sugarcane. The company also makes Sweet Banana and
Macadamia Body Souffle. Go to TahitianNoni.com.

Soft lips.
If you're the woman who can never have enough lip balm, check out Neutrogena tinted lip balms. They're sheer, with just a hint of color, and we love them because they are infused with moisturizing ingredients and sun protection. Each one contains aloe and vitamins C and E, and unlike some lip savers, they don't come off the moment you apply them.

Amber glow.
Looking sun-kissed has never been this easy. Estee Lauder's line of "just off the beach" products includes a range of bronzers in powder and cream: Amber Bronze Sienna Earth Powder and Amber Bronze Bronzer Crème SPF 12. Lauder also offers a liquid bronzer for the face. Whether or not you want the fake bake, you'll love Lauder's Amber Bronze Lip Gloss Balm. It's the bomb.

For hot hair.
In some parts of the country the sun is already burning hot, and if you're in one of them, you'll need Redken's UV Rescue products. The line is comprised of sun milk with SPF 12, protective oil, swim cream, brunette guard and blonde guard. The line is designed to safeguard hair and scalp from the damaging effects of sun, sea and pool. Check out their after-sun products too.

Restore moisture to nails.
Barielle's Restorative Nail Serum is a lightweight pre-polish serum that cleans and primes nails with a complex of alpha hydroxy acids to hydrate and strengthen nails. Just apply one coat over clean nails, allow to dry, then follow with base coat and polish. Available at Barielle.com.

Bronzed eye tones.
Mary Kay offers MK Signature, three bronze-tone eye colors that can be used together or separately. These dazzling shades, in mocha, auburn and sunlight, offer a range of looks because they can be used wet or dry and are crease resistant.

The scent of spring.
Elizabeth Arden is getting us ready for the exhilaration of summer, adding splashes of distinctly seasonal notes to her Green Tea fragrance. Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Summer contains top notes of tangerine, lemon and bergamot and middle notes of cyclamen, water lily and wild rose, all over a base of sheer musk, white amber and crystalline moss.

Travel kits.
Boscia, the preservative-free skin-care line, is introducing two great skin-care kits to take on airplanes. One focuses on keeping skin healthy and oil- and shine-free, and the other addresses dry skin and lines. Available at select department stores, or at Boscia.net.
